Here are some Fact and Figures about the Club that you can use in your fundraising email or on your FirstGiving page. Let people know why you are doing this Ride to support the Club.
In 2016 we served over 9,000 free dinners and close to 50,000 free snacks. We now serve free dinners 6 nights a week, often to 50 kids or more.
Over 70% of our members qualify for free/reduced lunches at school and live in single parent homes.
Our two sites, at 17 Flat St. in Brattleboro and at Westgate Apartments in West Brattleboro, have over 1,100 members. Our members make over 500 visits to our sites each week. The Boys & Girls Club of Brattleboro is the largest provider of youth programs and services in southern Vermont outside of the public school system.
Our Flat Street site is open 306 days a year. Of the 4000 Boys & Girls Clubs in the US, our Flat St. site is the only Clubhouse with an indoor skatepark!
Our “regular” members (youth who visit the Club at least once a week ) have had a 100% high school graduation rate and a 0% teenage pregnancy rate for the past 10 calendar years. Most of our members graduate high school on time with a plan for the future.
We offer 8 weeks of summer camp. The cost to Club members is $95 per week for 40 hours of supervised, “fun care” which includes snacks and lunch. Now that the Club is a Licensed Child Care Provider, we can accept Child Care Subsidies. This helps defray the cost of summer camp for many kids and allows them to have a quality summer camp experience.
The expenses for the Ride are quite low. More than 97% of the money raised by the riders goes to support the Club’s after school and summer programs. In addition to our summer camps, we have expanded summer hours for members. We serve more free meals in the summer and have increased transportation costs. We have to hire additional staff and our regular staff works longer hours.
For our two sites, the Boys & Girls Club of Brattleboro has 3 full-time employees and 17 part-time employees, including high school students serving as junior staff.
Personnel costs account for over 70% of our annual budget. 70% of our funding is provided locally.
The Boys & Girls Club of Brattleboro is funded independently from Boys & Girls Clubs of America. We are a franchise and are not funded by Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
