Here are suggestions for the email that new riders can send to potential donors. Use this as you wish, make changes and edit it. Make your email as personal as you can by giving people an idea of why you are excited about doing this fundraising ride to benefit a local organization. Let them know you’re making a serious effort to train for this ride. Make sure the information about how to donate, BOTH BY CHECK AND ON LINE, is very clear and stands out.

Last year’s riders, can use the email they used last year, with some updates. Thank past donors for their donation of $xx. Tell them about last year’s ride and why you are riding again this year. Make sure the instructions about how to donate are clear and that you mention the option of donating by check.

On June 29th, I’ll be participating in the Going the Distance Ride to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Brattleboro. I’ll be cycling a 100 mile loop through the Connecticut River Valley from Brattleboro to Northampton and back. I’ve begun my training for this ambitious Ride and hope we have good weather.

I’m excited to be doing this fundraising Ride in support of an important organization for the youth of our community. The Club has over 1100 members who make more than 800 visits a week to its 3 sites in Brattleboro, Bellows Falls and Westgate Apartments. The Club is a safe place for youth to be with their friends, play basketball and board games, skateboard and do various other sports and physical activities. Members can also take part in 15 after school programs that provide help with homework, music and knitting lessons, teach bike maintenance and cooking and help youth navigate through adolescence. The Club provides daily after school snacks and free dinners for youth 4 nights a week, often serving over 200 dinners per week.

Club mentoring programs are definitely paying off: Club members have a 100% high school graduation rate and a 0% pregnancy rate.

My goal is to raise $1000 for the Boys & Girls Club. Please support my effort with a generous tax deductible donation of $25 or more. You can easily donate online at: (here you should insert the link to your personal FirstGiving page) It’s simple, fast and totally secure. You can choose to cover the small processing fee charged by FirstGiving so that your entire donation goes to the Club. Or you can write a check to the Boys & Girls Club, with “The Ride” and my name in the memo line, and mail it to: Boys & Girls Club, 17 Flat St., Brattleboro, VT 05301. That saves the Club the online processing fee.

The expenses associated with the ride are quite small and are covered by corporate sponsors. That means that 100% of your donation will go directly to support the Boys & Girls Club’s programs for local youth.

You can get more information about the Club at: and click on “About Us” to see two short videos about the Club.

Thanks for supporting me and the Boys & Girls Club of Brattleboro,
